Can My Father Smoke Marijuana For Pain?

My question is regarding the dreaded marijuana cigarette. My dad is currently taking lortabs for the pain in his head. (He’s got a brain tumor, unfortunately.) He describes this pain as pressure, most notably behind his eyes. This sounds very much like the pain associated with glaucoma, which marijuana is known to ease. The lortab also has the effect of an appetite suppressant, which is none to good because he needs his strength for the road ahead. It is for these reasons that the use of marijuana sounds good, a nice alternative. Which brings me to my question, does anyone know of any link between raised insulin levels and the rate of tumor growth? Anyone know of any complications the use of marijuana could cause someone who is to undergo radiation treatment? A drug like dylantin and marijuana? High blood pressure and marijuana? Any help or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Apostle.

Many cancer patients use marijuana. It won’t interfere with any medications or treatments. It won’t hurt high blood pressure. It does help with pain. But.. it is illegal in most places. And if that causes stress it isn’t worth it. Most cops don’t have the heart to take pot away from a cancer patient, but some will. It can also cause panic attacks in some people.. but generally if you know it can happen.. it doesn’t. If he is willing to try it and you have a source for it that won’t land your butt in jail then it won’t harm him. Cancer treatment is probably the most appropriate use of marijuana that I can think of. It certainly has helped people I know in cancer treatment. I begged my own father to ease some of his pain but he was too afraid of the police to give it a whirl.

I don’t see why not. There are many states legalizing marijuana for cancer patients. There should be no complications with any kind of treatment and I’ve heard that it is the effects of some of these treatments that marijuana helps with.

Many, many people who have cancer (and other diseases) and have access to marijuana find a lot of comfort in it. My aunt had Multiple Sclerosis and she smoked it–and I swear it’s what gave her the strength and comfort to keep going instead of just giving in to her illness.
I’m not sure about a connection between high insulin and tumor growth. There’s one study saying that high insulin levels can lead to more rapid growth of prostate tumors (…in mice.)
It’s rare for marijuana use to effect other medications (except for a couple, such as most antidepressants), so I don’t know about an interaction with Dylantin, though I doubt it. That’s a question to ask a doctor, though–and you might want to ask too if marijuana could replace Dylantin.
In terms of blood pressure…it usually produces a temporary, moderate increase in blood pressure, but smoking it a lot over time may lower blood pressure slightly. It does increase your pulse rate for about an hour.
You’ll have to ask a doctor about complications with radiation treatment.
Overall, I think it would be a very good idea for your father to look in to using marijuana to help him deal with his brain tumor.
